| Fibre Optic Based Sensors and Single-Bead UV-Vis Spectroscopy
This research area aims to expand on the range of analytical techniques applicable to solid-phase organic synthesis and high-throughput screening. In collaboration with Dr. Jeremy Frey, current research is based on a recently constructed microscope coupled to a miniature solid-state UV-Vis spectrometer. This system enables the measurement of UV-Vis spectra from single beads in both a qualitative and quantitative manner.
Beads have been attached to the fibre to alow the preparation of rapid and responsive sensors.
Research is focused on two possible means of exploiting this system: (a) Chromophores already attached to the solid support utilised as sensors of the local environment, or (b) Chromophores attached to probes which are then used to interrogate compounds attached to a solid support.
