Gavin was born in Derbyshire, England and gained his Masters of Chemistry from Durham University in 2013. In his final year he worked with Prof Bryce on the synthesis of new surfactants for solubilising carbon nanotubes. Following this, he decided to move into medicinal chemistry and worked for Charles River Early Discovery in Cambridge. Here he gained valuable experience of the drug discovery process, working on the development of new drug candidates for neurodegenerative diseases. He joined the Bradley group in 2015 to pursue a GSK iCASE funded PhD, working to develop smartprobes for optical molecular imaging as part of the PROTEUS project.
In his spare time he enjoys travelling, walking and watching films.
